One of the most popular tours in Chiang Mai, Thailand are any of the hilltribe tours in the rugged countryside outside the city. These tours can easily be booked anywhere in the town of Chiang Mai. If you book in advance you will most likely pay extra.
The hilltribe village tour is only part of the package. Other activities in the adventure include an elephant ride, swimming below waterfalls, and a bamboo raft ride. It is one of the most popular tours in Thailand. The best part is actually staying in huts in the village and waking up to the sound of the rooster at 5am. Here is a shot of the thatched huts set amid the hills as we enter the small village.

I lived with a hilltribe family in Chiang Rai two summers ago. Such a unique experience and I got to work on some great projects to help the villagers! Don’t you love the delicious home cooked meals?

Must be strange going out and living with the hill tribe people. How long did you stay with them for?
We stayed one night in the village and then another night in a nearby camp.
