Traveling Ted is a blog that takes readers along on my adventures hiking, canoeing, skiing, and international backpacking. Many blogs focus on one aspect of backpacking, but I tackle both the outdoor adventure side and international exploration as well.

Karen hilltribe village

Karen hilltribe village near Chiang Mai

One of the most popular tours in Chiang Mai, Thailand are any of the hilltribe tours in the rugged countryside outside the city. These tours can easily be booked anywhere in the town of Chiang Mai. If you book in advance you will most likely pay extra.

The hilltribe village tour is only part of the package. Other activities in the adventure include an elephant ride, swimming below waterfalls, and a bamboo raft ride. It is one of the most popular tours in Thailand. The best part is actually staying in huts in the village and waking up to the sound of the rooster at 5am. Here is a shot of the thatched huts set amid the hills as we enter the small village.
