Traveling Ted is a blog that takes readers along on my adventures hiking, canoeing, skiing, and international backpacking. Many blogs focus on one aspect of backpacking, but I tackle both the outdoor adventure side and international exploration as well.

Partying with the President of Trinidad & Tobago

Partying with the President of Trinidad & Tobago – His Excellency Professor George Maxwell Richards

Taking photographs of beautiful women on the ramp leading through the judging station at the grandstand during the annual Carnival in Port of Spain, a man tapped me on the shoulder and said “there is the President of Trinidad & Tobago.” He said, “you need to take a picture of him as he is the George Bush of this country.”

How often when you are traveling do you get the opportunity to walk within five feet of the President with a point and click camera and take a picture like this: only at an event like Carnival. You have to love the guy too because if you are going to make an appearance it might as well be with a couple of beautiful plumed ladies at each shoulder.

It is amazing how the whole country gets into this event. With every big event there seems to be a cluster of curmudgeons who hat the crowds, the traffic, and the visitors. I am sure this element exists here in Trinidad & Tobago somewhere, but we have not found it. We have asked bartenders, Subway workers, people on the street, and everyone we have talked to love Carnival. Even the President, George Maxwell is all smiles and comes out dressed up.

Stay tuned,

TT
