Wisconsin farmland is a big portion of the state scenery
This website is dedicated to outdoor recreation in Wisconsin. Hiking, canoeing, skiing, and fishing to name a few are activities that take part in the considerable forest land in this beautiful state. We cannot overlook another enormous aspect of the outdoor lands found in Wisconsin. The farm is a huge part of the outdoors in this state and to never mention it would be a gross misjustice.
For many who drive through Wisconsin they cannot wait to pass through the farm belt on the way to other more interesting areas in the northwoods. The northwoods are amazing and a more natural beauty, but there is something comforting and charming about seeing a golden field of corn with an old house and silo situated at one end.
I prefer forest to farmland, but I also like to eat, so I like the balance that is found in Wisconsin between wild lands and agriculture. Actually, the farmland of Wisconsin is far from an eyesore. The rolling golden fields are sometimes just as scenic as a pine forest. Especially when the field is occupied with a herd of deer or a gaggle of turkey.
This post is in honor of the farmland of Wisconsin and let us not forget those hardworking families that work countless hours procuring our milk and other sustenance. In honor of the Wisconsin farmer and the farmer everywhere, here is a little tune by Ry Cooder.

I couldn’t agree more. I love the drive along 18 eastward from Prairie Du Chien. The long views of rolling farmland interspersed with blufflands and forest are amazing.

The Prairie Du Chien area is one of my favorites not only in Wisconsin, but the world. The Wisconsin River and the Kickapoo River are both phenomenal rivers.
