Halong Bay Vietnam boats
One of the premier spots in Vietnam is Halong Bay and with its 1,000 islands jutting out of the sea it is no wonder that it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This is one of those images that every travel has if they have taken the obligatory and necessary Halong Bay boat tour. In fact, if you click on the Wikipedia link, you will see a familiar picture (I promise this one is mine). The tours are exceptionally easy to book in Hanoi as just about every tourist establishment can hook you up with one.

It is one of those ultra touristy things that are as advertised. I would definitely recommend it.
We went for a three night kayaking tour – only thing was it was in January after a deep freeze and huge snowstorm had hit China. We got the freezing temperatures. We would eat bundled up and could see our breath. Still a very beautiful place to visit.

Halong Bay would not be the best place to visit in freezing temperatures, but like you said, it would still be beautiful.
I’ve never been to SE Asia but it has been a dream for ages to check out all the amazing looking islands there, it looks incredible
If you do make it to Southeast Asia, Halong Bay is a must.
This is at the top of my list for what to do next time I’m in SE Asia.
Halong Bay is definitely a must see. One of those places that does not disappoint.
Went there for 2D/1N trip last year. Such a beautiful place! Took the best pics ever at the sunset and sunrise. Got the one from the same spot you took yours. There are not many options for that angle in a cave 🙂 Seems like you were there before 2012. In 2012 ALL junks were painted in a white color (!) That was my biggest disappointment of the trip. Ha Long Bay looks very touristy now with white junks floating around. Many of them are loosing white paint on the sides, showing old colors… Man, that looks really bad.

This photo was taken from early 2005. I visited SE Asia a couple of weeks after the Asian Tsunami. Sorry to hear they made a poor painting choice on the boats.
I’ve been to Vietnam, but never Halong Bay. I really hope to visit soon.
