The first time I drove through Colorado I was really surprised with the Colorado plains. I figured the whole state would be mountains, so I was surprised by the long drive to Denver through the grassy hilly plains area. Not that this area is not pretty: like a desert it has a stark quality about it that is actually alluring. This shot was taken as I was driving out of a storm approaching Denver and the Rocky Mountains in the distance.
