Traveling Ted is a blog that takes readers along on my adventures hiking, canoeing, skiing, and international backpacking. Many blogs focus on one aspect of backpacking, but I tackle both the outdoor adventure side and international exploration as well.

Sharing is caring!

While exploring the Southern California desert one morning, I came across a couple of people out in the Mecca Hills Wilderness Area camping. I was immediately jealous as I only had a short time to hike in the canyon. Not only is camping allowed in the area, but it is free, and it is possible to stay in the same spot for 14 days. On the 15th day you must move. I doubt any rangers would ever come back and bother you though. Definitely bring a lot of water as there is no agua access back in the wilderness.

It definitely looks like a great place for a campsite. There would be a few hours each day where the sun would be especially intense, but the canyon walls would give you shade for a majority of the day and sometimes a cool breeze kicks up and naturally cools down the area. I wish I was there right now in this beautiful spot.
