Traveling Ted is a blog that takes readers along on my adventures hiking, canoeing, skiing, and international backpacking. Many blogs focus on one aspect of backpacking, but I tackle both the outdoor adventure side and international exploration as well.

Broad-winged hawk Florida

The laziest hawk: broad-winged hawk ever

At a lunch stop canoeing the Santa Fe River in Florida our group came across the laziest broad-winged hawk ever. Usually the only time you see hawks is when they are majestically soaring the skies in search of a mouse or a rabbit. You might get lucky and see them perched in a tree before they take off roused by your presence. This hawk had no intention of going anywhere. I am not sure if it was injured or perhaps he just stuffed himself with delectable rabbit and was in food coma mood and did not take. Another theory is he was posing for me, and his true goal was to get on Traveling Ted’s blog. Whatever the reason, the hawk’s laziness was our good fortune as I was able to take this up close shot.
