People praying at Sukhothai Thailand
Sukhothai Thailand translates as the dawn of happiness. The city was the capital to the first independent Thai regime after defeating the Khmers in the late 13th century. This photo was accidental. I did not even notice the people praying. The goal of the picture was to capture the statue in front of the pond. Sukothai is halfway between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. It can easily be reached by getting off the train at Phittsanoluk or by bus from either Chiang Mai or Bangkok.

We visited the area via train. Love northern Thailand– it’s a bit further off the tourist path and the train is so inexpensive.
