San José is located in the Central Valley of Costa Rica with mountains on each side. It lies in a tropical rainforest, but due to its elevation, it has a stable climate. The city’s elevation is approximately 3,800 feet above sea level. The climate stays stable due to the fact that it is two-thirds of a mile high.
My goal today was to secure transportation out of the city. I walked to the other side of town to the station where the buses depart for Puerta Jimeniz. Along the way, I snapped some pictures of the surrounding mountains hidden in the clouds. I have enjoyed the vibe of the capital, but I am ready to begin exploring the country tomorrow. Puerto Jimeniz is the gateway to Corcovado National Park. The most pristine park in the country and one that National Geographic calls “the most biologically intense place on earth.”
The pictures from here on out should get a little more interesting thanks to scarlat macaws, toucans, sloths, and monkeys I hope to see in Corcovado.
