Most rest areas along interstates have one trail people walk along. This is the trail from their car to the toilet and back. At the westbound I-94 Black River Falls rest area there is a scenic look out and a trail that leads to it near mile marker 121. The trail leads up a hill and then along these board walks to a scenic look out. This is a nice little walk to break up the long drive to northern Wisconsin.

Wow, what a great tip. I stop here pretty much every time I’m coming home from a trip to the east or southeast and climb to the peak – wonderful views, especially under a frosty full moon.
I’m recalling lots of great memories from this post – thanks!
Thanks RambleFeet,
I imagine a lot of people skip this hike and only do the bathroom stop. This last time I did the hike the view was obscured by clouds and fog. Checking it out at night under a full moon sounds really cool.
Great photo (as usual!).
Before you cross the bridge to take boardwalk, there is an old path that takes you to a higher view. Although it is no longer maintained so it is obscured.
Thanks Kurt,
Next time I stop here to stretch my legs, I will check out your tip.
