Niagara Falls travel guide
However, your visit should not only be about visiting The Falls. As you will see below there is a whole lot more to do and see in the area.
Experiencing the actual falls
I know, I know I just said that Niagara Falls was about far more than just waterfalls, but you really should do more than visit the falls, look over the edge and, leave. There are several exciting ways to see and experience the falls.
From the air
A helicopter tour is a fantastic way to see the Niagara Falls from the air. These tours are busy, so it is wise to book in advance.
Go behind the falls
One of the most popular tours is the Journey Behind the Falls tour. You can quite literally walk behind the waterfalls, which are accessed via a lift and tunnels. Once out on the observation decks, you stand quite literally at the foot of the falls. This tour allows you to experience the amazing force of these huge waterfalls.
From a boat
Several firms offer you the chance to see the falls from a boat. The Hornblower Tours of Niagara cruise is very popular
From the observation tower
If you fancy standing just above the falls a trip up the observation tower and out onto the platform is what you are after. Every year 8 million people see the falls from this tower.
From your hotel room
There is a great choice of accommodation in the area. Many of the large hotel chains have establishments here and some of them are built pretty close to the falls for you to get a view of the falls from your hotel room. Some of the hotels even have rooms with baths that look out over the famous waterfalls. Click here to get more information and to book one of these rooms.
Other attractions
It would not be a Niagara Falls travel guide without mentioning other great experiences in the area besides viewing the falls. Here is our round up of some of the favorites:
Try your luck
The Niagara Fallsview Casino is a popular destination. They offer the chance to try your luck, have a good meal and take in a show or enjoy live music.
Sample some wine
A visit to the famous Inniskillin Winery gives you the chance to sample their renowned ice wine. You also get the chance to see how it is made.
Something for the kids
The area’s theme parks are a great way to let off steam for all age groups. MarineLand is a great way to get close to dolphins, killer whales and seals. Martin’s Fantasy Island has water rides, pirate shows and coasters. The Indoor Waterpark is also a great place for everyone to have fun.
A little history
A visit to Old Fort Niagara is interesting for history buffs. This fort is steeped in British, French and American history. It saw action in several wars, including the American Revolution.
