Traveling Ted is a blog that takes readers along on my adventures hiking, canoeing, skiing, and international backpacking. Many blogs focus on one aspect of backpacking, but I tackle both the outdoor adventure side and international exploration as well.

Run rabbit run

Rabbit Run trail at Gunflint

Run rabbit run down the cross-country ski trails along the Gunflint Trail. One of my favorite bands of all time is Pink Floyd. One of their epic albums is Dark Side of the Moon. The beginning piece off of this seminal album is the song Breathe. A famous line from the song is “Run, run rabbit run, dig that hole, forget the sun, and when at last the work is done don’t sit down, it’s time to dig another one for long you live and high you fly. . . ”

There is a cross-country ski trail at the Gunflint Lodge cross-country ski trails called Rabbit Run. Whenever I ski this short trail, I always have Pink Floyd in the back of my mind especially when I fly down the hill with beautiful Gunflint Lake to my right. The lyric “long you live and high you fly,” seems to make sense to me at this point. It is cool how song lyrics can take on a life of their own that mean something to the individual listener that the artist had no intent when writing it.
