Traveling Ted is a blog that takes readers along on my adventures hiking, canoeing, skiing, and international backpacking. Many blogs focus on one aspect of backpacking, but I tackle both the outdoor adventure side and international exploration as well.

Singapore River night cruise a perfect intro

Singapore River night cruise is a perfect first stop while visiting this Southeast Asian country/city/nation. Singapore is a bustling metropolis with tons of things to do, eat, see, experience. It can be a daunting to task to figure out what to do first.

This is why the Singapore River cruise is a nice first step. You only really have to make one decision and that is to buy a ticket and board. The cruise and the boat will do the rest, and all you have to do is gawk at the impressive city in front of you.

Marina Bay Sands Hotel – A highlight from the Singapore River night cruise

I recommend a night cruise as the city is lit up and looks amazing from the water as lights reflect off the river. The cool breeze feels great and revives the weary traveler who has either spent all day in transit in airports, buses, or trains or has spent another humid day exploring. While you take in the scenery, you can begin to plan your attack to how to visit the city with the rest of the time you have or you can merely chill and enjoy the view.

You will pass by the Raffles Hotel, the Asian Civilization Museum, Marina Bay Sands Hotel, the Fullerton Hotel, beautiful bridges, and other must see spots in the city. While you relax and coast down the water, a guide will provide pertinent information and history on the places the boat glides past.

Living in Chicago, I am no stranger to river cruises having done the Chicago River with an architectural tour, by an electric boat, and self propelled with a canoe. I love rivers more than I love cities, so for me, being on the river is a way to make a bustling city with millions of people more tolerable.

The ticket prices are affordable. You can either take a cruise and relax or use the river as a mode of transportation to get to places for a closer look. You can purchase an all day pass and hop on and off one of the boats where you please. This is a great option also if you want to see the river from a day and night perspective without having to purchase two separate tickets.

There are two main tour companies that provide tours. The Singapore River Cruise offers a 30 minute cruise that covers Boat and Clarke Quay into Marina Bay. This tour runs $15.00 dollars for adults and $8.00 for children. You can add Robertson Quay to the trip, which is another 15 minutes and costs $18.00 for adults and $10.00 for children.

These cruises go from 9 a.m. through 11 p.m. with the last running at 10:30 p.m. The cruises run in 15 minute intervals, so you don’t have long to wait if you just missed a boat.

Hippo River Cruises is another alternative and they have a river cruise for $18.00. This company also offer an all day pass option for $23.00. These boats run 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Once you have the lay of the land down from checking out the city from the river, you will have more confidence and knowledge to tackle the rest of Singapore.
