The last minute travel check list

Travel check list

Before you hit the beach make sure these items are taken care of

Today’s guest post discusses the handy last minute travel check list. Do you have one?

When you are someone who is leaving the city or even leaving the country, there is a lot on your mind. Travel, whether domestic or foreign, can open you up to a wide number of issues, and the more prepared you are, the more smoothly your trip is going to go. However, before you step out the door, make sure that you take care of these small but significant issues.

You can find out more about traveling at the last minute with the experts at Holiday Hypermarket. It’s worth taking the time now to get organized: the last thing you want is to remember that you left the heating on and have no way to turn it off. So, let’s go!

Mail Stop

If you are going to be gone for more than a few days, it is worth your while to stop your mail. Nothing looks more inviting to a burglar than a mailbox crammed full of undelivered mail, and you’ll find that the postal service can take care of this issue for you very easily. Call their customer services team at least a week in advance to make sure that your mail gets stopped when it needs to. In the U.S. this can be done online at www.usps.com.

Plant Care

If you have been keeping plants in your home, it is important to remember that they need to be taken care of when you are out of town. Talk to a trusted friend about coming in to take care of them. Having someone taking care of your plants comes with an additional benefit: it helps give your house an occupied look, one that makes it less likely for people to want to break in.

Electricity Convertors

When you are headed away on an international trip, remember that different countries use different voltages and plugs. With that in mind, if you plug your appliances into a socket that carries a voltage that is too powerful, you can damage your gadgets. Imagine how annoying it would be to short your iPad! To avoid any problems, head to a travel or electronics store and make sure that you have enough convertors that will allow you to charge your gadgets when you reach your destination.

Check the Travel Arrangements

On the night before you travel and the morning before you set out, be sure to get updates on your method of transportation. For example, if you are traveling by plane, check with your airline to be sure that your plane is still set to leave as scheduled. Similarly, if you are traveling by train or bus, call ahead and make sure that your scheduled route is operational. Bad weather and accidents can severely delay or even cancel your trip. Take a moment to make sure that everything is ready to go. Otherwise, you might find yourself waiting out a five hour delay in a crowded airport instead of the comfort of home!

Arranging Maintenance Checks

Even if you do not have pets or plants, it is often worth your time to give a trusted friend a key so they can stop by and check on your house while you are gone. For example, they can turn up the heat to prevent your pipes from freezing, or they can check to make sure that you didn’t leave anything on in your hurry to get out the door.

Getting Where You Are Going

If you are heading to a travel hub instead of taking your car, it is worth your while to decide how you want to get there. Do you have a friend who can take you to the airport or the train station? Would you prefer to leave your car at the travel hub so that you can access it as soon as you get back? Get to know the different parking solutions and transfer solutions that are available to you.
