Photos of the week: Wisconsin River and Wisconsin Outside

Wisconsin River

I have lately written a couple of articles related to an unfortunate experience I had trying to publish an article for Wisconsin Trails on the Wisconsin River.  These articles are here if you would like to read:

Wisconsin Trails kills Traveling Ted’s article then revives it

Wisconsin Outside, the spirit of Capitalism, and travel blogging

From this experience a new blog and project emerged.  It is called Wisconsin Outside dot com.  The blog will be about all things Wisconsin regarding outdoor activities like hiking, canoeing, hunting, fishing, and anything adventure travel related.  I will be chief contributor, but I am also going to elicit help from the blogging community and feature many guest bloggers to help with the work load.

The project was inspired partly out of revenge for the reprehensible treatment by the magazine.  I want to compete with them and take subscribers for them; however, the genises of the project is not all negative.   I love Wisconsin and have had many great experiences all over the state growing up.  I look forward to sharing my love of the state with others.

My grandparents grew up in Milwaukee and my mom was born and raised in Milwaukee and went to college at Marquette.  Even though I am a flat lander from Illinois half of the blood that flows through my veins originate from Wisconsin.

Speaking of flowing, this week’s photographs of the week come from the Wisconsin River.  This beautiful sand bottom river is the bone of contention between myself and Wisconsin Trails.  Read my first draft on the article at Wisconsin Outside dot com here:

Paddle the Wisconsin River for the best river camping in the Midwest

Read the article “Sand Camp” which was bush league editorial work where the editors stole my idea, interviewed my sources, and rewrote and published the article without accreditation to the source.

Sand Camp

Despite the unfortunate experience, the Wisconsin River and the state of Wisconsin remain a gorgeous setting for summer adventure.  As you can see from these pictures the Wisconsin is a beautiful river with an easy, comfortable current to float down the river with.  There are awesome sandbars to camp on and to swim on during the hot summer or to enjoy the fall colors in the autumn.  The best portion of the river to canoe in my experience is from Boscobel, Wisconsin to the confluence with the Mississippi.

It is very disheartening to hear about the background of the Sand Camp article. Unfortunately, there are a lot of lazy brains out there who would rather steal ideas than work out something original.
