Traveling Ted is a blog that takes readers along on my adventures hiking, canoeing, skiing, and international backpacking. Many blogs focus on one aspect of backpacking, but I tackle both the outdoor adventure side and international exploration as well.

Sharing is caring!

Summer Camp Music Festival 2011 is in the rear view mirror.  All that is left are the great memories of music, this camping photo essay, adventure, and good times with friends.  In my last post, I uploaded a series of photographs featuring the music of the festival; however, attendees know this is only part of the adventure.

Have to love a Pabst Blue Ribbon tent

20,000 campers at Summer Camp

Besides the music, the weekend revolves around the camping experience.  Perhaps as many as 20,000 festival goers converged on Chillicothe, Illinois and many of these came to camp out all weekend.  The grove of trees in the middle of the park became prime real estate as campers virtually put their tents on top of each other.

For those that came late, they had to settle for the tent sites in the field.  The camping out there is good too, but those in the field had to endure the elements as there is no shade from the sun or shelter from the storms.  Tarps can help with this, but they do not help when wind accompanies the rain.

Good times had by all

Despite the tight fit, especially in the woods, everyone got along wonderfully.  Every five minutes a group of fellow campers might walk right through your campsite on the way to theirs.  This usually is a camping faux pas, but not at Summer Camp as there are no trails with so many campers clustered together, so it is understood.  Here is a gallery of pictures to bring home the experience.
